Gamemaster University
Site blog
Hello,
My name is Howard, and I created this free resource for several reasons. The foremost is that I want to give back to a hobby that has been part of my life since I first encountered it in 1982 at McVittie Elementary School in Drayton Plains, Michigan. I was invited to join a few classmates in another room while the rest of the class prepared for a school play, and since we were not in the production, we sat down to try something new. I played a first-level fighter named Winston and delved into the Caves of Chaos, and I have been hooked ever since. Tabletop role‑playing games have given me lifelong friendships, expanded my vocabulary, and helped me navigate some very dark times, and I am deeply grateful for what this hobby has done for me.
I also created this site to gather and highlight the very best GM education available, in both print and digital formats. I want this to be a rigorous, high-quality educational resource that players and organizers can trust, and that means something on a prospective GM’s resume. This kind of credibility is especially valuable for game masters who are working to monetize their skills on platforms such as StartPlaying or through independent offerings.
Another benefit of a resource like this is for high schools looking to start and run TTRPG clubs. This should be a nice resource as it will provide a framework for guidance.
Looking ahead, my goal is to attract a board of well‑respected voices from across our community to serve as an oversight and certifying body. With their guidance, the credentials earned here can carry real weight and be widely recognized throughout the hobby.
Thank you for all you do to support and grow our shared passion for tabletop role‑playing games.
